Dr. Thomas Holovacs

Dr. Holovacs has been practicing at MGH for 20 years on the orthopedics sports medicine/Shoulder service.

Dr. Holovacs received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. At PENN, he was a 4-year letterman in swimming and, as a senior was elected team captain of the men’s varsity swim team. He earned his medical degree from the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Columbia University in New York City, where he was selected a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.

Dr. Holovacs performed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. While at Duke he was an Assistant Resident Team Physician for all Duke University athletic teams, including the 2001 NCAA National Champions in Men’s Basketball. Furthermore, as a resident he honed his shoulder and sports medicine skills during 6 months of orthopaedic surgery electives at Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg, North Carolina – the home of the US Army’s 82nd Airborne Division and US Special Forces. After residency, Dr. Holovacs developed additional expertise in shoulder/sports medicine surgery when selected to be the prestigious “Intercontinental Shoulder Fellow”. As a fellow, he spent 6 months on the Harvard Shoulder Service at Massachusetts General Hospital and 6 months at the University of Zurich, Balgrist in Zurich, Switzerland.

  • Kendra Margulies, PA-C

    Physician Assistant

    Kendra Margulies holds an undergraduate degree in Athletic training/Sports Medicine from Quinnipiac University and Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from MCPHS-University. She has been working directly with Dr. Holovacs for more than 8 years on the Shoulder/Sports medicine Service. She is available for new patient consultation, follow-up visits. She guides patients through pre and post-operative patients. She is also available for virtual visits/telehealth for in-state (MA) patients.

  • Megan Zydel

    Megan began working in orthopedics in 2018 and recently joined Dr. Holovacs’s team in September. She enjoys meeting with patients to review and assist with all surgical requirements and questions. Her goal is to listen and help patients feel comfortable moving forward with their care. She completed her undergrad at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 2018 with a degree in Marketing
